GUESS WHO’S BACK, BACK AGAIN, JAVI’S BACK, TELL A FRIEND!

The day had finally arrived! Javier Morales was going to play in a game for the first time since his gruesome injury a few months ago! I wrote about that day HERE.

It was going to be an amazing game and we had free tickets thanks to our Pass of All Passes! Woot Woot! So we took Desmond to his 1st Real Salt Lake game, and it happened to land exactly on 3 months ago to the day he was born.

 

The game however didn’t turn out too swell. Kyle Beckerman got a red card in the 11th minute and it just went downhill from there. RSL ended up losing 3-0. Desmond was pretty bored during the game and fell asleep in our arms…. The one shining moment was when Javier was substituted in on the field. The entire stadium stood and cheered. You couldn’t help but feel chills. Although we lost we’re still RSL till we die!

OKTOBERFEST 2011

 

So we headed up to Snowbird this past weekend to take advantage of Oktoberfest! It was something Colton and David wanted to plan to get the family together. We even had a special surprise! Colton’s sister Brooklyn returned a day earlier than planned and came up to meet us. Brooklyn and her husband Kyle will be leaving on Tuesday for a 7 week tour of Europe to celebrate their graduation last year. They both worked in summer sales so now they have all the free time in the world. We are extremely jealous.

Anyway we had a great time at Oktoberfest and the food was delicious! It runs on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 5:00 I think and it goes until October 9th. If you haven’t already you should definitely make the trip. And at 3:15  the huge Alphorns perform on Hidden Peak! PROST!

            

THE HOLY WAR

Yes, we are what you would call a “split marriage”. When it comes down to BYU versus Utah it’s probably the one thing we just can’t seem to agree. This seems to be a common theme with a few of our friends as well where the husband is a Ute and the wife is a Cougar (not the kind you’re thinking of dirty mind). So naturally Desmond becomes the deciding factor and this year we received the perfect gift from our friend Paula at Ray Quinney & Nebeker. She handmade this awesome sweater for little Desmond.

  

We got together at the Bodell’s house with some friends to watch the big game. However, as you may know the game this year was a lot different compared to previous years when it has come down to the last second. Utah pretty much blew past the mistake prone Cougars by a score of 54-10. At least one of us was happy! Anyway, if you want to see highlights from the game go here:

LABOR DAY & THE GREEK FESTIVAL

 

We have tried to make it a tradition for Labor Day weekend to always do a hike as a family. Last year we did a really fun hike up to Lakes Mary, Margaret, and Katherine. This year our good friend Luke came along as we hiked up Bells Canyon Monday morning. It was beautiful. Desmond got a little fussy once we made it to the reservoir so we didn’t go much further. Maybe next year we’ll make the trek all the way up to the falls.

  

 

Colton’s family used to go to the Greek festival quite often as a kid. His mom’s side is Armenian and they’re proud of their heritage. Armenian food is pretty similar to Greek and so it is always a good time to experience the Greek Festival. We headed down by ourselves this year and had some delicious Gyros, Souvlaki, Pilafi, and a Baklava sundae mmmmmm. Next year we night run in the 5K because you get a free entrance to the festival and some free Greek food!

                           

SUNDAY PICNIC WITH THE FAM

So every Sunday Colton picks up his disabled brother McGavin and we take him out for a few hours. Our visits are short but we sure do love spending time with him. We usually take him to a park and walk around and just relax. McGavin loves going for rides in the car and being with family.

    

  

Last Sunday we had the entire family join us at the park for a picnic and we had a lot of fun together. Jewelya and David brought everything for sandwiches and we even had a good family soccer game afterwards. Good times!

  

  

      

A QUICK CABIN RETREAT

 

So we found out that the Cabin became available at the last minute and we invited our friends Lisa and Chris to join us for a little weekend retreat. It was so beautiful up there and it was really nice to get away. Colton even had fun trying to teach Desmond to fish. They mainly just kept singing this "get in the boat fish" jig without any luck. Any old homestarrunner fans out there? haha

We took a night hike later on Friday and Colton and Chris went fishing again early Saturday morning. We love the cabin! Thanks Lisa, Chris and Nolan for coming with us!
